Maidenhead United midfielder Sam Barratt has been recalled to the England C squad for Tuesday nights friendly in Wales.

Barratt was initially on manager Paul Fairclough’s contingency list but has been added to the main squad and will hope to earn his second international cap. Barratt played the first half of the Three Lions 4-0 International Challenge Trophy Final defeat against Slovakia in November 2017.

The former Bracknell Town and Woodley United attacker has made 24 appearances and scored twice for National League Maidenhead this season. The Magpies have looked comfortable in the English non league pyramids top division after winning the National League South last season.

Maidenhead announced Barratt’s call up on the clubs twitter account on Sunday evening tweeting: “Our man Sam Barratt will be representing the England C team once more this Tuesday as they take on Wales! Good luck, Sam”.

Ahead of the match – which takes place at Barry Town’s Jenner Park Ground on Tuesday 20th March (ko 7.30pm), manager Fairclough said to the Non League Football Paper: “If we go back to the days when we played games against each other in the Four Nations  they were feisty, competitive occasions

“I remember the keeper Tony Roberts and how up for the game he would be even in the tunnel.”

Barratt is joined in the squad by Reading born Grant Smith, the brother of former AFC Aldermaston goalkeeper. Smith is currently battling it out for a place in the National League play offs with Boreham Wood.

For Barratt it is another step forward in a career that we all hope will result in an EFL Football League career. Sam has had trials with Premier League side Crystal Palace as well as Bristol Rovers and a strong showing against Wales will certainly give the scouts something to think about.
