Southend United new-boy Sam Barratt featured in a behind closed doors friendly against a strong Tottenham Hotspur squad on Wednesday.
Barratt’s new club – EFL League One side Southend lost 6-0 to the Premier League club that featured a host of household names including Erik Lamela, Welsh international Ben Davies, Fernando Llorente and Michel Vorm.
According to the report on the Spurs website, goalkeeper Vorm was called into action for the first time, palming Sam Barratt’s 30-yard free-kick up and over the crossbar.

Barratt joined Southend in the summer after an impressive season in the National League with Maidenhead United. He was previously with Woodley United and Bracknell Town and had had trials with Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace before finally realising his dream of becoming a professional footballer with Chris Powell’s side
He has already endeared himself to fans at Roots Hall, scoring on his first appearance for the club in a friendly with Great Wakering Rovers before heading off on a training camp to Spain with the club.
