Former Binfield midfielder James Suarez has announced his retirement from football in a touching message on social media.

Posting on twitter, the popular midfielder wrote: “So the time has come to hang up my playing boots after 27 years playing the game that I love. After much deliberation, work and family have to be my priority.

“Time and commitment has been a big problem over the last few years, it’s not fair on the teams I play for, my family or me to be able to play to the level I expect of myself.

“I would like to thank all the teams, players, officials that I have met along my time in the game. I have made friends for life that I will always be grateful for.

“I will now turn my attention to distance running, spending time with my children and watching them grow up. Much love Suarez.”

On August 1st Suarez had put pen to paper for Thames Valley Premier League side Woodcote FC after a career that covered multiple spells with Binfield and Bracknell Town, as well as time with Penn & Tylers Green and Woodley United.

His former club Binfield tweeted: “Was a real pleasure watching you play in Binfield colours Swarzy, an integral part of what was a fantastic team we had . All the best for the future.”

Current Bracknell Town manager and former team mate Carl Davies said: “Sad times, one of the nicest blokes in football and a top player to boot. Don’t be a stranger, will always remember your cartwheel celebration at Binfield even though it put us 6-0 up and the game was completely done. Enjoy family time.”

Suarez was one of the first players to join the revolution at Bracknell Town when his former manager at Binfield Mark Tallentire took over at Larges Lane in the 2015/16 season. During that season the midfielder took part in the London Marathon which was covered on Football in Bracknell back in April 2016.

In October 2012 Suarez and Binfield team mates Garry Callaway, Jemel Johnson and Paul Shone (now Burnham manager) were part of a Moles baby boom when all four became fathers within a three month period. The full story was reported on Get Reading here.

All of us at Football in Bracknell would like to wish James the best for the future.
