Right now Bracknell Town top the Bostik League South Central Division 1 table on goal difference after the 6-0 win over FC Romania on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Robins lead by virtue of a +8 goal difference over Hanwell Town on +5 who beat Ashford Town 2-0 on Monday night.

In addition to the league table, Bracknell also currently top the attendance table in the South Central Division with an average home crowd of 248 while their biggest attendance was the 260 that watched the Robins against FC Romania on Monday.

236 came out for the opening day win over Waltham Abbey and 201 watched the cup tie with Kingstonian.

Bad old days

It is of course early days, but Bracknell have come an awful long way since March 2012 when 38 watched Bracknell beat Thame United courtesy of two goals from Sam Barratt.

Some explanation, that low figure comes toward the end of what was a dreadful season that included a 9-1 defeat to Ardley United, a 10-0 defeat at Oxford City Nomads and ultimately relegation to Division 1 East of the Hellenic League.

‘Fantastic’

Football in Bracknell asked Robins manager Carl Davies what the support meant to the club and the players. He said: “Although it’s early days, being top of the attendance table is fantastic for the club.

“There are some well established teams in this league some that have been in the National League, so to be beating the likes of them is some feat.

“Big crowds make a massive difference, players feel like they want to put on a show when more people turn up. I read a few tweets last night from the new faces turning up for the first time, that’s refreshing and hopefully they liked what they saw enough to return for future games.

“I must say the club themselves deserve a mention for keeping the prices at £5 for adults. You’ll struggle to find another step 4 team with the entry price so low, so hats off to the chairman and co. for that.”

The Robins have a little way to go before matching some of their Division 1 contemporaries, in the North Division Felixstowe & Walton United average is 567, Burty Town is 393 and Aveley is 309 while in the South East Division Guernsey average 595 and Hastings United 404.

Next up for Bracknell is a trip to South Park on Saturday 1st September. Kick off 3pm.
