For the last year or so it’s been a real ambition of mine to launch a companion podcast for the Football in Berkshire website, the issue has been around both time and what exactly to focus on.
I didn’t want it just to be another way of putting out Berkshire football news. That’s what the website does and is for and as a weekly product not something I am certain I could commit to.
As well as that, if I have picked up anything over the last year listening and running another podcast, it’s that the best one’s tend to have a bit of a timeless quality to them.
With that in mind (and name subject to change if anyone can come up with anything a bit better) I’d like to tell you a bit about what ‘Berkshire Football Stories’ will be about.
It’ll be talking to former players, managers and people behind the scenes about anything from really niche moments in time to shining the spotlight on a playing career.
The podcast certainly will be irregular (i.e. not weekly) but four episodes have already been recorded:
- Jon Underwood and Neil Baker on their Bracknell Town playing careers
- AFC Wimbledon’s first ever competitive fixture at Sandhurst Town (Pete Browning and Steve Stairs)
- Mark Ashwell on Wokingham Town and Finchampstead Road
- Steve Jinman and Maidenhead United (The Devonshire Years Part 1)
Where can you get it?
When it’s ready, Berkshire Football Stories will be available on Apple Podcasts on your iPhone, Spotify and Acast as well as all good podcast apps.
Who else is on it?
As with most things on Football in Bracknell, I would very much welcome your input on who we should talk to. So much so I’ve put together a quick form:
It goes without saying, if anyone knows the whereabouts of one Peter Skerritt. he’s top of the wanted list!
