It’s hard to argue that Woodley United Ladies first season back in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division was a successful return with the Kestrals finishing fourth a year after winning the Division One North title.

Now, defender Charley Evans has picked up a number of nominations for the EPC sponsored Bracknell Football Awards in the category of Women’s Player of the Season.

Evans started 17 times for Marc Surtees side and made two further appearances off the bench.

Here’s what the nominations for Charley said: “Charley is a very talented, skilful, strong and committed footballer. She has played in various positions for Woodley United Ladies and excelled in all of them. A very quiet person and always plays with a smile. Her commitment to the team was highlighted during one game when she broke and dislocated two fingers, during treatment her response was “just tape them up, I’m not coming off”

Another nomination said: “As a defender you don’t get much recognition for the obvious reasons although Charley has been absolutely outstanding for Woodley United Ladies this season. She has put in some crucial tackles to deny plenty of teams a goal scoring opportunity.”

“She is classy in the way she can take players on and have a huge impact on the game. I would go as far as saying she is one of the best defenders in the Southern Region Women’s Premier League!

“She is a warrior and that showed in a game where she dislocated her finger just before half time and carried on playing until full time! She has bags of talent and is exactly what every teams needs! She has been consistently outstanding in every single game, well done Charley on an remarkable season.”
