Former Bracknell Town winger Joe Grant started for Motorama National League South side Slough Town on Tuesday night in a pre season friendly.

The Rebels narrowly lost 4-3 at Arbour Park to National League Eastleigh (there’s a Rob Stevens round up on the Slough Observer website here) and co-manager Neil Baker had some positive words to say about Grant’s involvement.

Baker, like Grant a former Bracknell Town player, was pleased with his performance in the 45 minutes he had and said he would continue to get chances in pre season: “He played for us three years ago when he was at Ascot United and we were in the Southern League Premier Division. He wasn’t strong enough at time but he’s gone away and obviously improved at Bracknell.

“He’s a quick strong boy with plenty of confidence!”

Baker confirmed they would look to tie Grant down initially, but breaking in to the first eleven was all down to the player over pre season: “He impressed, he’ll certainly get chances and we’ll look to sign him on National League forms but it’s up to him to earn his place during pre season.”

Another player from the lower leagues stepping up on the night was Dan Roberts who made a competitive debut for Baker’s side last season on dual registration with Windsor.

Roberts scored Slough’s third goal on the night and Baker said: “It was a good finish and he did well again when he came on. Dan is in a similar situation to Joe, both stepping up a few levels.

“These boys have got to come in and do well, it’s down to what they do in pre season to force their way in.”
