It’s another busy weekend of football but while most sides are playing their fourth or fifth fixtures already, Isthmian League side Bracknell Town are about to play their first when they head to Chipstead on Saturday.

The Robins chairman said earlier in the week that the club may have to ground share if they prove successful in earning promotion in the short term, but that possibility is a minimum 38 games away with the hard work starting Saturday.

Football in Bracknell spoke to manager Sam Lock about the first game and what the squad would look like. He said: “Close to a fully fit squad to choose from. Harrison Bayley, Max Herbert and Dave Hancock all returned to training this week. Kai Walters is almost back in training but Lee Barney remains out. It’s been a long pre-season but we are buzzing to get going!!”

On the subject of a longer pre season and whether it had been useful to his new look side. Lock said: “Yeah definitely – it’s a brand new squad so we have needed every minute together. I’ve seen us grow  and get stronger and I expect that to be the case as the season progresses.”

The club confirmed on social media that goalkeeper Mark Scott would captain the side going in to the new season with James Mulley as vice captain.

Ascot United have an away day to Redhill in the Premier Division. Manager Jamie Tompkins said: “We have minor injuries keeping some players out for a week or two. James Haworth, Elliott Carey, Samir Regragui, Jon Bennett, James Smith and Dom Sullivan all out injured.

He added: “We will be announcing a new signing of a former player today, Dave Hoar and he will be in the squad tomorrow.”

Sandhurst Town host Chessington & Hook United at Bottom Meadow in Division One with manager Michael Herbert welcoming a new signing.

He said: “Jamie Mitchell is now signed on and in the squad. Very exciting young player. Apart from that, pretty much same squad from last week.”

Eversley & California manager Matty Angell has had to rejig his squad for the visit to Kensington & Ealing Borough with several players on dual registration featuring for Binfield on Friday night.

He said: “Quite a few changes today with Cam Blackie missing, our dual reg signings Jemel Johnson, Jamie Griggs and Johnny Hathaway not available.

“We do welcome Kai Francis to the club whom we have signed from British Airways which should bring us some physical presence in our attack and the pacey winger Gabra Wendling from Sandhurst whom I have worked with previously at Basingstoke FC.

“Looking forward to the game which will be a tough battle against a very good young footballing side.”

Football in Berkshire asked Angell about the affect the dual registration players had had on the side, particularly the experience Johnson. He said: “They have all been brilliant for the squad and certainly added that extra bit of class and quality which you would expect from them all. JJ has been really good to have around and some of our younger players have learnt a lot from his game and his movement at this level is excellent.

“Binfield have a lot of strength and depth this season and can see it be a successful one which will be great for the area.”

Reading City head in to their Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup tie at Taplow United with an unfamiliar face in goal in the shape of striker Yashwa Romeo.

Manager Simon Johnson said: “Charlie York is away on holiday so Yash starts in goal. He’s got some experience, I believe he’s played in goal for four different non league clubs!”

In terms of outfield players, he added: “Arthur Furness set to make debut, Fergus Burton returns to the squad.”

Chalvey Sports boss Matty Young has a few decisions to make with his side at home to Abingdon Town.

He said: “It’s a depleted team this weekend with several players
missing through injury. With seven missing, our squad will be stretched to its maximum. Our decision to have a big squad will pay dividends with what will still be a strong team.

Oscar Betts will retain his place up front after a late winner and screamer against Wokingham & Emmbrook. Our midfield is all change except the ever present and exceptional Charlie Evans accompanied by experience in the shape of newlywed Jason Marney and Aydn Coomber. Our boys will be charged up after an exceptional start against strong opposition.”

Finally, Holyport boss Derek Sweetman will shuffle his squad before the trip to Didcot Town Development. He said: “We will be looking to shuffle the squad round a bit tomorrow, have a couple missing and a couple injured. Luckily we have a bigger squad this season so some of the other lads will get a run out.”
