Binfield head out on the road to Deal Town on Saturday morning for the second FA Vase Fourth Round appearance in the clubs history.

The Moles last foray this deep in the competition in 2011/12 ended in a 7-1 defeat to Tividale. It’s not the Moles first visit to Deal though, the following season they headed to Kent and came home with a 5-2 win.

The Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side have been in good form but manager Roger Herridge knows his side are in for a tough afternoon. He said: “My Vase record terrible so to still be in after Christmas is new territory for me! We do have plenty of experience in squad though with two winners. We have done our homework, it’s not an easy game, they are s good side who with home advantage will be favourites.”

Herridge confirmed that striker Asa Povey would travel and said: “Apart from the cup tied Jon Bennett we have a full squad travelling. Asa Povey returning to fitness is a real boost, like a new signing.”

As well as having two former Vase winners in his squad in Tom Melledew and Jemel Johnson, the Binfield boss also highlighted the importance of his assistant Carl Withers and on field general Jamie McClurg. He said: “Their experience is invaluable , the difference those two have made to us this year is massive. Jamie leads by example on and off the pitch, he is unique, I have been in the game for a long time and let me tell you there aren’t many like him.

Withers playing days over now though, but I am sure he would still do a job. He knows this level inside out and has learnt from some good managers. It’s his first season in management but taken to it like a duck to water. I always described him as a Rolls Royce when he played for me, I have no doubts he will go on to be a top drawer manager.”
