Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Division One side Sandhurst Town are searching for a new manager after Michael Herbert announced his resignation.

After two seasons with the Fizzers, former Woodley United and Mortimer boss Herbert will take up the managerial reigns at Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East Penn & Tylers Green, replacing Gareth Williams.

Writing on Twitter, Herbert said: “Today I have resigned as manager of Sandhurst Town FC. What a top club and loved my time there. Big thanks to Chairman Tony Dean, the players, the coaching staff and all the volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes.

“With all the changes happening at the club, it felt the right time to step down. No doubt the club will be massively successful in the coming years.”

Highly experienced at step 6, Herbert led Woodley United to promotion to step 5 for the first time in the clubs history at the end of the 2016/17 season and lifted the Berks & Bucks County FA Intermediate Cup, while his first season at Sandhurst saw the Fizzers finish 6th, and this season were on course to take one of the four promotion spots before the season was abandoned.

A statement on the Penn & Tylers Green website from chairman Tony Hurst says: “We believe that with the completion on our pitch, new floodlights and the infrastructure we already have in place, we are set up to give Michael the best opportunity to bring success on the pitch to Penn.  More importantly, with the implementation of our senior football pathway, we are hoping to attract and develop the best young footballers in the local area and having a successful first team is an important element of that plan”.

Between 2015 and 2017, Penn won back to back Hellenic League Division One East titles and have since finished third and ninth.

Herbert’s assistant at Sandhurst, Darryl Jelly also appears to have confirmed he is also departing Bottom Meadow.
