Thatcham Town’s FA Vase winning manager Danny Robinson made the switch to Vanarama National League South side Hungerford Town over the weekend.

Arguably the Kingfishers most successful manager, he was appointed as sole-boss in August 2016 having initially been joined as co-manager with Gareth Thomas. Robinson brought the West Berkshire side into the national consciousness when a Shane Cooper-Clark penalty fired Thatcham to a 1-0 win over Stockton Town at Wembley Stadium in 2018.

That same season he led the blues to the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division title and his team were top of the Southern League South Division One when the 2019/20 season was brought to a premature end.

Writing on social media, Robinson said there hadn’t been a single moment he hadn’t enjoyed in charge of Thatcham: “I was truly blessed to be the manager of my home town club and what a journey it has been. There has not been a single moment that I haven’t enjoyed. From when Eric and Gareth called me to come in I never thought I would love football even more then I did.

“Eric believed in me, made me feel wanted and just wanted was best for me. I really do owe him the world. To get work with Stuart who has been like a big brother to me and Sylvia a second mum I really can thank them enough for everything. Everyone behind the scenes that work so hard from Karen and Wayne to the media boys it really has been a great journey.

“Dave Melin also who came in last season as the new chairman I have to say a massive thanks. Along with those thank yous, I have to thank the whole of the blue army that have supported me all the way through it!

“The club is nothing without you and I am sure come what may you will get behind the new gaffer and give him the great support I received. The last thank you goes to every single player and staff member that has played for me and been with me. You are the real heroes, the real reason why we have gone from 13th in the Hellenic League to top of the Southern League via Wembley.

“I am nothing without you. I will always be a supporter and always be a part of the great history we created. Stay safe, love to all and god bless. Regards Robbo.”

Robinson joins Hungerford Town in the Vanarama National League South – a step up of two divisions. The Crusaders had had a vacancy since April 29th when Ian Herring confirmed his departure.
