Hungerford Town recorded a second straight Vanarama National League South win on Saturday, winning 2-0 at Tonbridge Angels to back up the 3-0 home win over Chippenham Town on Tuesday.

The win in Kent came thanks to second half goals from Ryan Seager and a 94th minute strike from James Harding that is as opportunistic as it is bizarre.

Substitute Harding pounced on a loose ball after Angel’s goalkeeper James Shaw rolled the ball forward for what he thought was a free-kick after Harding had appeared to foul him, only the referee didn’t blow his whistle, something only the Hungerford striker seemed aware of.

According to KentOnline, Shaw wouldn’t stop apologising for the error that appeared to surprise everyone in the ground. Defender Jack Parter said: “James said it was foul – the player kicked his foot – but I think the ref called play on because he had the ball in his hands.

“He rolled it out thinking it was a free-kick and they scored.

“James wouldn’t stop saying sorry.”

Hungerford signed Harding in the summer having scored over 20 goals for Cinderford Town last season and manager Danny Robinson has continued his Crusaders revolution this week with the signing of FA Vase winning midfielder Harrison Bayley from Marlow.
