Vanarama National League new-boys Scunthorpe United probably didn’t know too much about Maidenhead United but they certainly do after Alan Devonshire’s side pulled off a brilliant York Road win in the Vanarama National League.

Devonshired, as it were.

Elsewhere in weekend talking points, Tadley Calleva dealt with their start to the season in the best way while Hungerford Town have yet more digital outputs to enjoy.

If you’d like to keep an eye on all the weekend results, head over to the Fixtures & Results page here.

You’ve been Devonshired

There are three requirements for a quintessential Devonshir-ing.

  1. Former Football League club
  2. Complain about the York Road pitch on social media before the match. Bonus points for the use of the word ‘tinpot’
  3. You will score goals, maybe even enough to draw level. But Dev always has the last laugh

And so it came to pass on Saturday, newly relegated Scunthorpe United were truly Devonshired. 3-0 down at half-time, two second-half goals gave the Iron hope but Dev was last seen chuckling into the Magpies sunset.

More on being Devonshired as we break it down here.

Tadley move on

It’s not been the ideal start to the season for Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South. A 6-2 FA Cup defeat at home to Wincanton Town was followed up by a 5-2 league defeat at Colliers Wood United on Saturday.

In terms of dealing with that sort of start to the season, sass is definitely our preferred of social media strategy.

Hungerford Town welcome Jedward

Irish pop-twins Jedward have rolled into West Berkshire.. wait, no sorry, Hungerford Town have signed goalkeeper JED WARD on a months loan from Bristol Rovers*.

Feel like we’ve conned you a bit there.

To make up for it, we really enjoyed Ella-Jade’s TikTok from the Crusaders away day at Dover Athletic.

*Absolutely certain this is not a new joke, and Football in Berkshire would like to apologise to both Jed and his family.

Merthyr on the Bowerman Express

We’ve laboured this pun for almost a week so thankfully Seb Bowerman got on the scoresheet at Merthyr Town on Saturday. Bowerman was at it again, this time from the penalty spot at Bracknell Town beat the Welsh side 3-1 with Jordan Esprit, and Darryl Sanders also scoring.

Football in Berkshire’s Steve Gabb made the trip and sent back some lovely pictures of a proper ground. So it was well worth it for Steve and for the Robins.
