It was a mixed opening night in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League for our local clubs as Binfield put to rest any lingering hangover from last seasons Reading Senior Cup Final*.

The Moles went to Henley and gained all three points in a 2-1 win as Liam Ferdinand and Michael Walton scored for Roger Herridge’s side.

There was a full debut for Jake White during the game while Garry Aulsberry and new signing Tom Hopper made ‘second debuts’ for the Moles. You can read the full Colin Byers report here.

Defensive errors cost Bracknell Town in their opening game at Flackwell Heath as they lost 3-1 according to our man on the spot Darrell Freeland who’s report you can read here.

Callum Whitty gave the Robins the lead on five minutes after Ian Davies was felled in the box but the home side pulled it back and led 2-1 at the break.

League table: Here’s the full Hellenic League table on FiB

Ascot United’s opener at home to Highmoor-IBIS couldn’t have gone much worse after a 2-1 defeat and a red card for new goalkeeper Carl Dennison after 25 minutes.

Credit where it is due though, it took 45 minutes for the visitors to score and United were level after a penalty from Paul Coyne on 82 minutes before a 90th minute winner for Highmoor through Jamie Piercy who made it five goals from five matches for him.

Mark Pugh’s report from the game is here, and a quick look at manager Jeff Lamb in goal is here.

The biggest winners of the night and early table toppers are Thame United who thrashed relegated Burnham 8-1 with Andrew Gledhill helping himself to a hat-trick.

And finally, if you are looking for shocks – our Hellenic Panels tip for the title Thatcham Town were beaten 1-0 at home by Ardley United – there’s a report on that game from our friends at OxOnFootball here.

Full results from the first round-of games:

Ascot United 1 – 2 Highmoor-Ibis
Brimscombe & Thrupp 0 – 2 Lydney Town
Flackwell Heath 3 – 1 Bracknell Town
Henley Town 1 – 2 Binfield
Longlevens AFC 1 – 1 Oxford City Nomads

Thame United 8 – 1 Burnham
Thatcham Town 0 – 1 Ardley United
Tuffley Rovers 2 – 1 Highworth Town

It was strange opening night with the three most fancied and tipped sides for the title in Bracknell Town, Highworth Town and Thatcham Town all suffering defeats.

Next up is the Extra Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup. Find out who to watch and where to watch it here while Reading FC Women are in action this evening at home to Manchester City Women in the FA WSL 1.
