It took extra time at Hill Farm Lane but Binfield were finally able to break Ascot United’s resistance in the quarter final of the Reading Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

The Yellamen under new manager Neil Richard’s had taken a 55th minute lead through Kai Walters but two minutes later Grant Kemp was on hand to level things up for the Moles from a corner.

That’s how it stayed when the final whistle blew but it was Binfield who came out stronger scoring twice in the first period of extra time through Liam Ferdinand – who’s father was playing for Mortimer at the other end of the B3018 against Bracknell Town – and Harrison Bayley.

There were two further goals in the second period with Ferdinand scoring again and substitute Mo Davies getting in on the act.

Twice beaten finalists in the last two season, Binfield will be eager to make it third time lucky and will face either Finchampstead or Thames Valley Premier League Woodcote Stoke Row in semi finals – the full draw is here.

Post match, Moles manager Roger Herridge said: “Credit needs to be given to Ascot, they made us work very hard for it but we always looked the more likely to win it after half-time.

“There was a lot of good build up play we just lacked a final ball and when we did have chances Matt Hill in the United goal did very well.”
