Hill Farm Lane is the place to be tonight when Binfield host Bracknell Town in a mouth-watering Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division local derby (kick-off 7.45pm).

Title Race

With the Robins drawing 1-1 at home with Flackwell Heath on Saturday, it allowed Thame United to regain top spot in an already very tight title race. Thame currently have 62 points from 26 matches, Flackwell have 61 points from 28 matches whilst Mark Tallentire’s side are in third with 60 points from 25 matches.

Victory tonight will see Bracknell climb to the top of the pile once again but you can be sure that the seventh place Moles will relish the challenge of stopping their local rivals.

Form

Since a 3-0 defeat at Thame on 14th January, it’s a four match winning run for Roger Herridge’s side. There’s been goals aplenty at both ends with nineteen goals scored whilst the six conceded show a slight frailty – at times – at the back.

Liam Ferdinand leads the way with 31 goals from 31 matches but Herridge will be pleased to see five other players also notching goals in the current four match run.

For Bracknell, you have to go back to 5th November for the last league defeat in a narrow 2-1 loss at Tuffley Rovers. It has been seventeen victories, one draw and only one loss in the nineteen matches played in all competitions so the Robins will definitely start favourites tonight.

Adam Cornell has 32 goals and TJ Bohane 31 for the visitors tonight coupled with the Moles 31 goal Ferdinand, we shouldn’t be short on penalty area action this evening.

Previous Meetings

This is round three with two previous encounters this season.

Back in September it was the Buildbase FA Vase with the tie switched to Hill Farm Lane on a Friday evening due to the redevelopment works at Larges Lane.

Witnessed by 351 people, Jack Broome’s 25 yard striker put the Moles ahead before two goals in as many minutes (Joe Grant 78, George Short 79) sent the Robins into the next round.

6th December saw the first ever competitive first team match on the 3G surface in the league where 476 people turned up to watch a thriller.

Goals were shared until late with Grant and a Seb Bowermen’s penalty for the home side whilst an own goal and Sean Moore struck for the Moles. It looked likely to end in a draw until substitute Kensley Maloney’s stoppage time magic to work an opening and fire home.

Future Matches

The sides have been drawn together in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic Challenge Cup and will meet in the final of the Berks & Bucks FA County Senior Trophy whilst there could yet be a sixth match somewhere down the line in the Reading Invitation Challenge Cup.

Tonight will give Binfield a chance to claim a first win over Bracknell this term and lay down a marker ahead of the upcoming matches.
