Three was a prominent number for us today with all three of our local Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division sides winning and all three winning by a three goal margin.

Binfield were the only local side at home and despite Roger Herridge’s tweets of “having to beg, borrow and steal a side”, they had too much for Gloucestershire side Lydney Town winning 4-1 to remain one of four sides with two wins from two.

Tom Williams opened the scoring to give the Moles a narrow lead but Lydney equalised shortly after the restart only for Liam Ferdinand to restore the lead immediately. Ferdinand and Williams would both add their second goals later on to seal a very good victory.

Bracknell Town travelled to Oxford City Nomads and also recorded a 4-1 win with that number three appearing again as Adam Cornell struck a first half hat-trick to set the Robins on their way to victory.

Cornell scored twice in two minutes just before the thirty minute mark being set up for both goals by Khalid Senussi. His third goal was even better as Carl Withers ball found the striker who took it first time and lobbed goalkeeper Christian Lawrence from the each of the penalty area.

Substitute Seth Humphries pulled one back in the second half turning in Billy Gillett’s cross before Withers smashed home after Cornell had tee’d up Withers.

Ascot United squared off at newly promoted Carterton and came away 3-0 victors.

Ben Knight opened the scoring on 41 minutes before Charlie Samuels struck twice in the second half to see the Yellaman climb to sixth position.

Elsewhere, Thame United stay top with a maximum six points as they beat title favourites Highworth Town 4-2 at home.

Andrew Gledhill added two more goals to his opening treble to lead the early golden boot standings on five whilst team-mate Lynton Goss now has three goals in from two matches.

With an Emirates FA Cup victory last weekend it’s six in total for Gledhill and five for Goss in all competitions.

Possibly the result of the day saw Brimscombe & Thrupp defeat 2013-14 title winners Flackwell Heath with four unanswered goals scored by Jordan Yeo, Ben Snook and a pair from Jack Smith.
