It was a very tough opening day for our local sides in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East.

Finchampstead trailed away to Chinnor at half time after conceding a penalty which was scored by John McMahon but thought they had claimed a point after Harry Swabey levelled matters late only for the home side to score an even later winner as McMahon’s fine individual effort won the match.

Relegated Wokingham & Emmbrook were many people’s title favourites but they started new manager Clive McNelly’s reign with a 2-1 defeat away at Didcot Town Reserves as they were punished by two lapses according to the clubs Twitter feed.

The biggest winners were Holyport who thrashed Wantage Town Reserves 8-0 with Paul Rake helping himself to four of those goals.
