As we move into the eighth week of the Allied Counties Youth League season we thought we would let you know how our four local clubs – Ascot United, Binfield, Bracknell Town and Sandhurst Town are progressing.

The star performers are Sandhurst Town. Winners of the South Division last term with a very good record of 17 wins and only three defeats from their twenty matches, they have carried that form forward this campaign in the Premier Division.

A 100% record from three matches played sees them top on nine points including a very good 3-0 win against Oxford City who only just missed out on the title last season.

The young Fizzers have also won their first round match in the ACYL League Cup.

Ascot United FC

It’s been a positive start too for Ascot United who sit in third in the Premier Division.

An opening day loss against a much fancied Beaconsfield SYCOB team has been followed by two wins including a thumping 7-2 thrashing of Marlow.

The U18 Yellamen won two matches in the FA Youth Cup beating Carterton and then Burnham before agonisingly exiting on penalties against Oxford City following a 4-4 draw.

Bracknell Town FC

Following their relegation to the South Division, it was a tough baptism of fire for Bracknell Town losing their opening two games 5-1 and 8-1 but they have responded fantastically with 3-1 and 6-1 league wins and they are still going strong in the FA Youth Cup.

The Robins had a bye in the preliminary round before seeing off Windsor 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw. In the second qualifying round they beat Wantage Town 4-1 and they are one of only six AYCL sides left in the cup and they will travel to Poole Town in the third qualifying round.

If they can overcome Poole, they’ll have a great chance of drawing a football league side.

Binfield FC

Binfield have only completed one league match which they won although they were leading in another which had to be abandoned due to bad injury to right-back Jack Rafferty who had started the season well.

It was a tough FA Youth Cup draw for the young Moles who were paired with Maidenhead United – winners of the ACYL Premier Division for the past five years – but although they lost 2-1, it was a match Binfield controlled largely and should have won.

There are always twists and turns during the season but its well worth getting along to watch with most of the sides charging only £3 for adult entry and you can see the future stars of each club in action.
