Golden Farmer Rangers sauntered to the top of the Bracknell Town & District Sunday League Premier Division while there was some cup joy for Braybrooke Athletic on 23rd October.

Before we move on to the Sunday highlights, a little bit of housekeeping. We’ve changed the ‘shocks’ section of this bulletin to something a little less contentious. It was intended originally to highlight impressive results by teams against sides either in a higher division in the cup, or simply above them in the league table.

Having played in the Bracknell Sunday League – badly for sure – for many years, the difference between teams at either ends of the table could at times be considerable and we wanted to celebrate those results. However that’s not how it has come across, we can appreciate, so we’ve changed it. Tom

Big scores

4-4 is this weeks magic number!

There were higher scoring games at the weekend, but Sunday saw three 4-4 draws at the weekend across the four divisions.

In the Premier, it was Finchampstead Athletic Sunday and FC Meta who played out a high score draw.  Both sides could be described as ‘free scoring’, registering 17 goals each in their last three games.

Division 1 side Bracknell Forest held Pinkey’s Green to a 4-4 draw at home in the County Cup, but were eventually defeated 6-5 on penalties while Division 2 Club 8 won their penalty shootout 4-3 with South Reading after a 4-4 draw.

There were other high scores, Bracknell Athletic being beaten 9-1 by FC Totteridge United in the County Cup while Binfield Royals were beaten 5-3 by Sandhurst Sports Club and in Division 3 Silver Birch beat Bracknell Cavaliers Under 21s.

Clean sheets

A rarity in Sunday League so we celebrate the six from the weekend..

None in the Premier Division this week so we start with Whitegrove’s 6-0 shut out at Dinamo Chequers in the defence of their County Cup title and Finchampampstead Athletic Sunday Reserves 1-0 defeat of bottom side 3M FC.

There were four clean sheets involving Division 3 sides with AFC Crowthorne Reserves winning 5-0 against Milton Saints in the County Cup. Bracknell Titans had no response to Holyport Vets who beat them 4-0 while Winnersh Rangers beat Langley Old Boys 4-0 – both in the County Cup.

The final clean sheet was Ashridge Park under 21s at home to Finchampstead Athletic Sunday ‘A’, the youngster winning 6-0.

Top of the league

As mentioned, Golden Farmer Rangers went top of the Premier Division on Sunday with a 7-2 win at Super Reeves. GFR are two points clear of second placed Binfield Athletic Club and three clear of former leaders Bracknell Cavaliers who lost 4-3 at Morale Madrid but have a game in hand.

In Division 3, Bracknell Falcons saw their lead at the top cut following a 3-2 defeat to FC Harmans Water.

And finally..

A superb result for Braybrooke Athletic in the County Cup – one that will hopefully bread confidence after they beat Derby Green & Potley Reserves 6-1, and a hat tip to Binfield Athletic Club who recovered from last weekends 7-3 defeat, to beat Bracknell Celtic 6-2 and jump up to second spot in the Premier Division.
