Woodley United inflicted a first Hellenic League Division 1 East defeat of the season on Penn & Tylers Green thanks to a second half Danny Horscroft.

Former Wokingham & Emmbrook and Binfield man Horscroft struck in the 76th minute to narrow the gap between the sides at the top of the table to five points – and United have three games in hand.

Woodley’s assault on the title and potential promotion will take a back seat next weekend when they are back in Berks & Bucks County Cup action.

Finchampstead picked up a fine 6-2 win at home to Didcot Town Reserves, there was a hat-trick of braces for Finch who saw two goals each for Kylo Atkinson, Harry Swabey and Danny Blatchford.

There was also joy for Wokingham & Emmbrook and AFC Aldermaston, the former won 4-2 at Wantage Town Reserves courtesy of goals from Matt Booth (2) and Tom Williams (2) while the Isotopes won 4-1 at Holyport thanks to goals from Kai Parton-Edey (2) and Michael Porter (2).

Sandhurst Town were away from league action and played Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Hellenic League Cup – details here.
