Charlie Oakley and Jake Nicholls were both on the scoresheet as Woodley United defeated Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-1 in the Second Round of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.
It was the Kestrals second trip to the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground in 11 days, the previous meeting was a 2-1 Supplementary Cup defeat to the same opposition – and this time is was Michael Herbert’s side who came away victorious.
The third placed Hellenic League Division 1 East side beat their Premier Division counterparts thanks to a 32nd minute opener from Oakley, and Nicholls 52nd minute free kick.
Before all that though, Bassett had been reduced to 10 men early on when goalkeeper Curtis Meare was sent off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Manager Michael Herbert tweeted after the match saying: ‘Good win at Wootton Basset last night. The boys stuck to the game plan and deserved the win. Some good individual displays.’
