Binfield FC’s youth team closed the gap on leaders Camberley Town in the Allied Counties South Division on Thursday night with a 3-0 win at home to third placed Knaphill.
Moles assistant manager Mark Poole has sent us this report:
We knew it would be a tight game as the away fixture in January proved to be a tough game for us.
Knaphill are very well organised and the tried to stop our midfield three playing. For the first 25 minutes this worked and Knaphill caught us on the counter a few times. Their lack of goals was down to poor finishing and some good work by our keeper Charlie Yorke meant we rode it out.

We looked dangerous from our set pieces and a good corner from Charlie Craske to the back post was delicately cushioned by Callum Brighton to front man Will Corbishley who opened the scoring. From there on in, we played well. We managed the game well, in difficult conditions against a well drilled, organised opponent.
Our second goal game from a bit of brilliance. We played some good football from the right hand side, Marc Green and Brett Gardner linked up well and Will Corbishley found some space just outside the opponents 18 yard box and he drove it into the top left, leaving the keeper no chance.
We went into the halftime break knowing the job was half done, we had been in the position many times before. Playing good football but coming out second half and letting the opponents dictate the play. The message from manager John Polston and coaching staff was clear, do not let them play. Move the ball quicker in the middle.

Knaphill came out as we expected, fired up, making four changes. They put some early pressure onto our goal but within 5 minutes of half time Corbishley completed his hat trick with a well timed finish.
We took the sting out of the game and controlled it, we could and should have scored more with a few missed opportunities.
It was a good solid performance which boosts our confidence moving into the much anticipated game against league leaders Camberley next Thursday at Hill Farm Lane. We will look to carry on the good work we have done in the league this year and build on our consistency and the platform we have laid.
A special mention to Knaphill player Harry Webb who went off with a serious looking head injury, all the players and coaching staff at Binfield Allied Counties which him the best.
