We said it would be a crucial night in the title race this evening, we sort of meant for Thame United in terms arguably the toughest game of their final three fixtures rather than a gut-wrenching defeat for 9-man Bracknell Town at Ardley United.

As they had in the previous meeting, Ardley scored first but Bracknell equalised shortly after through Adam Cornell.

This time Ardley weren’t going to be beaten though and took the lead again before half time.

It got worse for the visitors in the second half with a third goal going in and Jamie McClurg seeing red in what was labelled a ‘feisty’ match on twitter, and any hope of a fightback was extinguished with Ardley’s fourth and Bracknell also saw captain Carl Davies dismissed and Assistant Manager Steve Nebbett dismissed from the dugout.

None of that mattered though with Thame being held 0-0 at Tuffley Rovers at half time in Gloucestershire until three second half strikes gave the United a 2-1 win and a five point lead at the top of the Hellenic Premier.

Thame have another tricky tie at Lydney Town to come – though on a slightly more travel friendly Saturday – before facing relegation haunted Henley Town.

It certainly isn’t over for Bracknell’s title ambitions though the tide has turned slightly – they still have a game in hand but must win all three remaining games and need Thame to drop points in their final two games.
