Ascot United Ladies are through to the Second Qualifying Round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup after a sudden death penalty shoot out win over Newbury at Ascot Racecourse.

Manager Darrel Evans gave debuts to former Bracknell Town players Lisa Philips and Sarah Davern, but it was Georgia Bowers who gave the Yellawomen a first half lead only for the visitors to equalise in the second – and with no further score it was down to penalties.

Hannah Evans, Bowers, Sian Miller and Lauren Broadhurst all scored in the shootout which finished 4-3.

It was a tough tough afternoon for Woodley United Ladies who were also in FA Cup action at Southern Region Women’s League Premier Division side Oxford City.

The Kestrels were on the end of a 9-0 scoreline though it took half an hour for the Premier Division side to break the deadlock.

And finally, on the opening day of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division 2 East Binfield’s first game ended in a 5-0 defeat at Sandhurst Town.

The Lady Moles arguably looked the stronger side in the first half despite conceding an early goal and went in search of the equaliser – the best chance falling to Loren Cardy who hit the bar.

Sandhurst came out of the blocks in the second half with three quickfire goals to end the visitors hopes of getting back in to the game.
