Caroline Paterson put in a player of the match performance as Wokingham & Emmbrook beat Southern Region Women’s League Division 1 North leaders Barton Rovers 4-1 at Lowther Road on Sunday.

The experience forward had a hand in two of the Sumas four goals and her flick on in the opening five minutes allowed Jo Atkins to open the scoring.

Sophie Mabbett got the second goal after good work from Alice Lilley and Lilley herself scored two minutes later.

The visitors pulled one back shortly after the break but Lilley put the game to bed with five minutes of remaining as the Sumas closed the gap on the leaders to two points.

Elsewhere Woodley United were held to a 2-2 draw by Wycombe Wanderers – Rebecca Lowes scoring for the Kestrels on 39 minutes before the home side equalised on 68.

Woodley were ahead again through Rosie Page-Smith but Wycombe levelled again in the 89th minute.

In the Thames Valley Women’s League Ascot United Reserves pulled off a terrific result at Woking with a 4-3 win and goals from first team players Lauren Broadhurst and Mia McCreesh as well as Carol Checkley and Rebecca Fieldus.

Binfield gave leaders Abbey Rangers a bit of a fright on Sunday afternoon in spite of a 7-3 result, keeping the league leaders who had previously scored 54 goals in seven games at bay for 25 minutes before a couple of quick fire strikes gave the half time score a slightly lop sided look at 3-0.

The Moles fought back though with substitute Ariesha Stephenson-Lewis setting free Connie Wilson to make it 3-1, and the forward had her second minutes later heading home Amy Martin’s corner.

Abbey made it 4-2 shortly after but Martin pulled another back following up a loose ball with a header from 5 yards and there were further chances for Binfield who just ran out of steam in the dying minutes.

Finally, Lucy Smith (2) and a Shellie Irvine hat trick (we’re not sure of the sixth scorer at the time of writing) were enough to see Sandhurst Town past Aylesbury United in the Second Round of the League Cup.
