One Allied Counties Youth Football League game locally survived the weather over the last seven days as Bracknell Town advanced in the League Cup with a win over Premier Division side Harefield United at Larges Lane on Tuesday night.

If there were nerves amongst the young Robins squad against higher opposition, it didn’t really show as Bracknell raced away to a 5-1 victory in the second half after going in 1-0 down at the break on a cold night in East Berkshire.

The visitors scored after nine minutes and held that lead until Myles Carter levelled on 58 minutes from Tom Baldwin’s cross and Taylor Morshead put the Robins ahead on 79 minutes, heading home from a corner.

After that it was one way traffic with Ellis Day delivering a double strike on 82 and 85 minutes and Baldwin went from provider to finisher with the Robins fifth of evening, latching on to Owen Holland’s goal kick to round the visiting goalkeeper.

Post match, joint manager Peter Jones said: “Big thing for me was the character shown by the team to come back after conceding an early goal and to then get back into the game and create chances in the first half. Then in the second half to have the confidence to get the ball down and play and put pressure on a good team to get the equaliser and then score four in the last 15 minutes to complete the victory.”

A few games coming up that complete the 2017 part of the ACYL season starting with Central Division leaders Binfield who host Highmoor Ibis at Hill Farm Lane while Bracknell are back in action at Sandhurst Town on Monday night and there’s a derby to finish things off the following evening when Ascot United host Binfield.
