Bracknell Town made short work of a potentially tricky away tie at Abingdon United on Saturday in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, heading home with a resounding 5-0 win.

United had beaten league leaders Highworth Town 4-2 in midweek but have been wildly inconsistent for much of the season and it took 20 minutes for the Robins to break the deadlock with TJ Bohane heading home Jamie McClurg’s free kick and it was 2-0 on the half hour as Seb Bowerman earned and then converted a penalty kick.

The scoring continued after the break with Joe Gater – the central defender playing an unfamiliar midfield role – scoring on 63 minutes and Bohane making it 4-0 on 66 minutes and the game was wrapped up with five minutes remaining by Joe Grant.

Elsewhere Ascot United opened up a five point gap on the bottom four with an impressive 5-2 win over bottom side Highmoor Ibis, Matt Jones with the opener on 16 minutes while Trevor Muntero and Ryan Cooper sent the Yellamen in to the half time break three goals up.

Louis Bouwers continued the scoring for Ascot in the second half  to make it 4-0, but Neil Richard’s side didn’t have it all their own way – the home side showing some fight and scoring twice on 75 and 81 minutes before Ross Seldon finished things off for the visitors.

Elsewhere Windsor were ahead twice at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp but a hat trick from Sam Blackie saw the visitors head home with a 3-2 win while Shane Cooper-Clark scored four and Liam Ferdinand twice as Thatcham Town thumped Lydney Town 8-0.

In Division 1 East none of our sides fixtures beat the weather while Lee Simpson’s first game in charge of Berks County in the Thames Valley Premier League at Taplow United was also postponed.
