Bracknell Town’s Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division title chances revolved around a highly unlikely 10 goal margin of victory at home to Tuffley Rovers on Saturday afternoon that proved just a step to far in a magnificent season.

That’s not to say that the assembled crowd and twitter watchers wouldn’t have been a combination of nervous and excited as Carl Davies’ side wracked up a scoreline that went so close to causing a huge upset down the road in West Berkshire.

It started when Seb Bowerman opened the scoring on four minutes and TJ Bohane doubled the lead on 15. They couldn’t, could they? It was 5-0 at half time, Adam Cornell scoring twice – one a terrific overhead kick while Bowerman added his second – the chase was definitely on!

Three more flew in in the second half but as Davies scored Bracknell’s 8th in the 90 minutes the Robins knew the game was up. They had pushed Thatcham all the way on the final day with Joe Grant adding his own brace but have ultimately achieved the aim of the season which was to win promotion back to step 4.

Elsewhere Woodley United were unable to reproduce the their Thursday night comeback and will most likely be back in Division 1 East next season. The Kestrels though have had some excellent results and will be a good bet to make a swift return to the Premier Division. James Anderson’s side were beaten 3-0 by Longlevens, meaning a 19th place finish.

In Hellenic League Division 1 East Virginia Water wrapped up their season in style with a 5-1 win at home to Thame Rangers while Wokingham & Emmbrook finished off with a 5-0 win over AFC Aldermaston.
