On Saturday AFC Aldermaston travelled to Abingdon Town looking to continue their winning start to the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East season.

Abingdon had also won their first game but had not played since they defeated Woodley United 6-4 back on the 4th August.

The Abbotts showed no sign of rustiness early on as they took the lead on 18 minutes. The Atom Men were only behind briefly as Leymar Maycock turned in a nice cross from Luke Mitchell in the 20th minute.

Fifteen minutes later Aldermaston took the lead as Liam Tackley crossed for Josh Blackwood to slot past the keeper. Things would get even better for the visitors on 38 minutes as Leymar Maycock got his second of the game from a Zach Tull corner.

Just before half time the hosts reduced the deficit from a corner of their own, making the score 3-2 at the break. In the second half Aldermaston were forced to do a lot of defending but they held out resolutely to win 3-2 and to go top of the Hellenic League Division One East.

The team Aldermaston defeated last weekend, Wokingham & Emmbrook, were in action as they hosted Bicester Town at Larges Lane. The Satsumas started strongly but despite having a few good efforts it took until the 40th minute for the deadlock to be broken.

A great ball from Ben Broadhurst was headed home by George Marsh to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break. In the second half Wokingham made their dominance count as a second goal from Marsh and strikes from Sam Lawrence and Connor Holland put them 4-0 up.

The Foxhunters did grab a goal back, but the four-goal advantage was restored when Danny Blatchford made the final score 5-1.

Eversley & California faced a tough prospect when they hosted free scoring Bedfont & Feltham in the Combined Counties League Division One. The visitors came storming out of the blocks and raced into a three-goal lead which they held until half time. The Boars grabbed a goal back midway through the second half, but the Yellows were not done and eventually ran out 5-1 victors.

After a victory in midweek, Sandhurst Town were looking to make it two wins in two games when they welcomed Fleet Spurs to Bottom Meadow. The Fizzers produced a rapid start, forcing the visiting keeper into a save within 10 seconds before taking the lead in the 10th minute when Kylo Atkinson scored after a fine run down the left by Luke Burrows.

For all their dominance Sandhurst could not extend their lead and were pegged back to 1-1 when Spurs scored from the spot early in the second half. The Fizzers missed a penalty of their own on 68 minutes, but it did not prove costly as Michael Cooper bundled the ball home from a corner with 10 minutes to go to make the final score 2-1.

Sandhurst were also in action on the Bank Holiday Monday when they travelled to Cove. The home side started strongly and had the Fizzers on the back foot, but towards the end of the half Sandhurst came into the game.

Just before half time Charlie Oakley turned in an overhead kicked assist to give Michael Herbert’s men the lead at the break. The second half was more even but the Fizzers created the best chances and Oakley grabbed his second with 5 minutes to go as he broke away and slotted past the keeper.

Cove were able to grab a goal back from the penalty spot, but it came too late to affect the result. The win was Sandhurst’s third in six days and sees them climb into the top half of the table.
