On Monday night Wokingham & Emmbrook made the trip to Scours Lane to face Woodley United in the Hellenic League Division One Subsidary Cup.

The competition is for all the teams in the Hellenic Division One East and West and it starts with a group stage where the 28 teams are split into 7 groups of 4 in which every side plays each other home and away.

Woodley and Wokingham are in a group with AFC Aldermaston and Holyport and the only game played so far saw Holyport defeat Woodley 6-0 at Summerleaze Village. The competition was praised last week by Football in Bracknell’s ‘Insider’ columnist.

In this match it was the Sumas that started stronger and they took the lead on 12 minutes when Danny Blatchford played in Jake White who rounded the keeper and slotted home. Shortly afterward the Kestrels came into the game and saw one effort rattle the bar in a period of sustained pressure. The second half ware barely a minute old when Wokingham extended their lead through a fine finish from Connor Holland.

On 50 minutes Kai Parton-Edey pulled a goal back when he met a cross and finished from close range. As the second half went on Woodley put the visitors under a lot of pressure, even having a shot cleared off the line, but late in the game Sam Lawrence was brought down by the home keeper for a penalty. White stepped up to score and give the Sumas a 3-1 win.

On Tuesday night Wallingford Town played their third Subsidary Cup group game when they hosted Milton United. After narrow defeats to Abingdon Town and Didcot Town Development in their other two group games Wally needed a victory to get their campaign under way. That is exactly what happened as goals from Charlie Silkstone, Luke Williams and two from Tom Baptie gave Wallingford a 4-2 win and lifted them to second in their group.

Also on Tuesday night Eversley & California faced Staines Lammas in the Southern Combination Cup. Lammas are the current holders of the competition and finished last season in sixth place in the Combined Counties Division One, but despite their good season, they were demoted to the Surrey Elite Intermediate League as their ground does meet the FA Regulations.

Due to the same ground issues the game was played at the ESA Ground despite Eversley being drawn away. The Boars were the better side in the first half and two goals from Joe Pantony, including one from the spot, gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.

5 minutes after half time Bradley Brown added his first and Eversley’s third but it was Brown’s second goal on 65 minutes that seemed to open the floodgates. A minute later Brown turned provider for Cameron Miller to make it 5-0, and Mo Davies added another on 70 minutes. Substitute Ste Peacock added two more goals before Brown completed his hat-trick on 88 minutes. There was still time for Miller to add his second and round of an emphatic 10-0 win for the Boars.

  • Wallingford Town 4-2 Milton United
