On Saturday Woodley United and Wokingham & Emmbrook faced each other in a Berkshire derby at Scours Lane. The home side got off to a fantastic start with the ball being headed into the path of Chace Jewell who smashed it in within the first minute of the game.

The Sumas equalised mid-way through the first half when Josh Harris flicked the ball on to Ellis Day who found the top corner with a great volley. The Kestrels would retake the lead on the stroke of half time as a Max Laschock shot was saved by Own Holland in the Wokingham goal, only for the rebound to be slammed in by Sam Guze.

In the second half the visitors were able to level once more when a Harris strike from the edge of the box found the back of the net. The Sumas missed two good opportunities to take the lead for the first time and they were made to pay late on as a cross field ball found Teddy Thomas who looped a shot over the keeper to make it 3-2. The victory was Woodley’s first home league win of the season.

Elsewhere in the Hellenic League Division One East, a goal from Jay Welch was not enough for AFC Aldermaston as they were defeated 2-1 by fellow promotion rivals Thame Rangers.

Rangers, who are the reserve side of Southern League Division One Central side Thame United are yet to taste defeat in the league this season and their victory sees them move up to third in the table, one place below the Atom Men.

Wallingford Town shared the points and six goals on their trip to Abingdon Town. Wally came back from a two-goal half time deficit, taking the lead with goals from Stu Walker, Luke Williams and Euan Aitchinson, but the Abbots equalised with 10 minutes remaining to leave the final score 3-3.

Sapsed the hat-trick hero

In the Combined Counties League Division One, a breathless first half saw Josh Sapsed grab a hat-trick and Eversley & California take the lead three times but head into the break with 10 men in their match at FC Deportivo Galicia.

Sapsed’s first came midway through the first half after good work from Josh Smith and Mo Davies left him with a close-range finish. Galicia levelled almost immediately, but on 30 minutes Sam Wood played in Sapsed who restored Eversley’s lead.

The home side equalised three minutes later, but Sapsed completed his hat-trick on 40 minutes to give the Boars the lead for the third time. Four minutes later Eversley were reduced to 10 men as Smith saw red and Galicia went on to level once more, just before half time. The second half was much less eventful; there were no further goals and the game finished in a 3-3 draw.

Sandhurst’s run ends

Sandhurst Town’s undefeated run finally came to an end as they lost 2-0 at home to Tooting Bec. The Fizzers were 1-0 down when they were reduced to 10 men shortly before the break with Patrick Gardner given his marching orders. In the second half the visitors extended their lead, meaning Sandhurst lost a league game for the first time in almost two months.

In the Reading Senior Cup Holyport travelled to Thames Valley Premier League side Westwood United who play at Sol Jol Park, Earley. After a goalless first half Holyport took the lead through a spectacular overhead kick from Steven Deverall on 65 minutes.

Westwood drew equalised shortly after, and the game was level at 1-1 after 90 minutes meaning extra time was played. Westwood took the lead through a long range free kick, but Adam Sharp got Port back on terms almost straight away, and Deverall’s second gave them a 3-2 lead on 104 minutes.

With extra time running out Sam Whitfield scored to make the game safe, and there was still time for Kris Drake to add another leaving the final score 5-2 to Holyport.
