A tricky looking tie for Ascot United on Tuesday night in the Hellenic League Premier Division at Virginia Water but the Yellamen came away with the points in a 3-1 win.

Nathan Minhas (pictured) struck after five minutes at Stag Meadow and captain Louis Bouwers headed home from a Chris Ellis throw on 20 minutes.

Josh Hill levelled for the home side from the penalty spot after 27 minutes to reduce arrears to 2-1 at half time.

On 77 minutes an own goal from Virginia Water originally credited to Bouwers sealed the points for the Yellamen.

Elsewhere Holyport ended Thame Rangers unbeated start to the Division 1 East season with a 3-0 win at Summerleaze.

Derek Sweetman’s side were held by previously unbeaten Thame to a 0-0 at half time but a second half double from Fabian Driffill and an own goal sent Port up to fourth in the table.

In the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup, Division 1 East Wokingham & Emmbrook gave a good account of themselves at Premier Division title challengers Wantage Town and led early on through Ellis Day, but ultimately went down 6-2 at Alfredian Park.

The Freds lead 2-1 at the break and 3-1 shortly after before another Sumas youngster, Connor Holland reduced arrears, the home side though ran away with it a little at the end.
