In the Hellenic League Division One East, Woodley United defeated Abingdon Town in an end to end game that saw seven goals scored at Scours Lane.

The Kestrels were the first to get on the scoresheet with Max Laschok breaking down the right and putting his shot into the far corner past the keeper.

The Abbots were only behind for a minute before taking advantage of some slack defending to make it 1-1. On 21 minutes Laschok doubled his tally and restored Woodley’s lead from the penalty spot after Leon Mannion was fouled, but 10 minutes later Abingdon equalised once more after a quick break.

5 minutes before half time Woodley lead once more as Laschok rounded the keeper and squared for Pablo Fernandez to fire into an empty net.

During half time there was a torrential downpour that made playing conditions very difficult, but despite that Mannion was able to break away and extend Woodley’s lead on the hour mark. With 5 minutes to go Abingdon scored a neat third goal, but Woodley were able to survive a nervy last few minutes to record a 4-3 victory.

Winning run ends

Holyport’s winning run came to an end on Saturday at home to Didcot Town Development. Both sides struggled with the conditions, and the game was decided by a single goal with Didcot taking the lead in the 83rd minute and holding on to secure a win.

The Berkshire derby between AFC Aldermaston and Wokingham & Emmbrook was postponed as the pitch at the Recreation Society failed an inspection.

Combined Counties League

In the Combined Counties League Division One Eversley & California hosted Ash United at the ESA Ground. After a goalless first half it was the visitors who took the lead just after the hour mark, but their lead lasted only a few minutes as Brad Brown scored direct from a free kick to equalise for the Boars.

Ash would have the last word thought and with time almost up they scored their second to take home all the points and end the Boars undefeated run.

The final game with local interest, Sandhurst Town travelled to Surrey to face Godalming Town. In a game played in terrible weather, the home side took the lead in the first half and doubled their advantage 10 minutes after the break.

In the 62nd minute Haydon Richardson scored to reduce the deficit but that was as good as it got for the Fizzers who ended the game with 10 men after Luke Burrows was sent off for his second yellow card.
