Ascot United are back at the top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division after a 1-0 win over Bishops Cleeve at the Racecourse Ground.

Fabian Etienne got the only goal of a game played in difficult conditions in the 43rd minute as the Yellamen took advantage of Brackley Town Saints game at Lydney Town being abandoned with Lydney 3-0 up at the time.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Brimscombe & Thrupp kept up the pressure at the top of the table though, the former winning 3-1 at Tuffley Rovers, the latter 3-1 at Windsor, Rob Lazarczuk on the scoresheet for the Royalists.

Binfield’s match against Ardley United on Friday night and Reading City’s game at home to Shrivenham both fell foul of the weather.

Bostik League

In Hertfordshire, it was a day to forget for Bracknell Town and their travelling fans. They were beaten 7-2 at mid-table Ware in the Bostik League South Central Division 1.

Liam Ferdinand equalised on 17 minutes after Brandon Adams had scored after 4 minutes but the home side raced to a 4-1 half time lead.

Adams scored again on 63 minutes before Ferdinand got his second for Bracknell but two further goals in the last ten minutes including a penalty rounded things off for Ware.

At the top of that table, leaders Marlow were beaten 3-1 at home by Waltham Abbey while Hayes & Yeading United lost 4-2 in the FA Trophy at Brackley Town.

In terms of step 6, it was a widely disrupted weekend, but Rob Davies will round up the scores this week.
