Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Ascot United had to work hard for their passage through in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup Second Round at Chalvey Sports on Tuesday night.

With the score 0-0 at half time against their Hellenic League Division 1 East opponents, the Yellamen finally broke the deadlock on 66 minutes thanks to a second goal in two games from Fabian Etienne.

Jonny Denton made things safe for Ascot with an 87th minute penalty but there was some late drama as the home side pulled one back through Paulo Cicero in injury time only for Geoff Kibaki to make it 3-1 a minute later.

Wokingham & Emmbrook join Ascot – and Binfield who won their tie on Monday night, in the Third Round after seeing off Abingdon Town 2-1.

The Abbots had been forced to postpone another game at the weekend due to player unavailability but gave the Sumas a game on Tuesday night at Larges Lane.

Youngster Connor Holland and midfielder Nick Bateman gave Wokingham a 2-0 half time lead but it was a tighter second half and the visitors did pull one back.
