In the Combined Counties Division One Sandhurst Town recorded their first league win in 2019 with an impressive victory over league leaders Bedfont & Feltham at Bottom Meadow.

The visitors took the lead after just 7 minutes of the game with a great strike from outside the box that lobbed Matthew Watson in the Sandhurst goal.

The score stayed at 1-0 to Bedfont until the 70th minute when Paul Rake got the Fizzers back on level terms. 5 minutes later Sandhurst got the winner when Paddy Gardener went past a defender and almost beat the keeper, but had his shot turned away into the path of Callum Samuel-Harman who finished clamly.

The Fizzers held out for a win that puts them back in contention for a top 6 finish.

Eversley & California suffered their 3rd defeat in 4 games, losing 4-2 at British Airways. The home side took a two-goal lead before Brad Brown scored to get the Boars back into the game.

10 minutes later BA restored their two-goal advantage but with 10 minutes left, Ryan Whyte scored to make it 3-2 and to set up an exciting finish. It was not to be fore Eversley as the host grabbed a late goal to leave the final score 4-2.

Hellenic League Division One East

In the Hellenic Division One East Wokingham & Emmbrook recorded a good away win at Milton United. After a fast-paced but goalless first half the Sumas took the lead 20 minutes after the break when a strong run from Joshua Harris saw him beat two players but eventually get brought down for a penalty.

Jake White stepped up and made no mistake from the spot. Late in the game Milton were reduced to 10 men as their striker was sent off for a bad foul on Ben Winship. The sending off made no difference to the score as Wokingham saw out the game for a 1-0 win.

Woodley United gained a point on the road with an impressive performance at Thame Rangers. Thame took the lead after 16 minutes when a quick corner caught Woodley napping, but a few minutes later the Kestrels were given the chance to equalise when Max Laschok was fouled in the box.

After a long delay Laschok saw his penalty go over the bar, but the striker redeemed himself just before the break when he robbed the Thame defender on the edge of the box and slotted the ball past the keeper to make the score 1-1.

In the second half Woodley withstood a large amount of pressure from Thame before having chances to win the game late on, but there were no further goals and the game finished at 1-1.

Wally Town miss chance

With Thame drawing Wallingford Town had the chance to move up to second in the table if they won at Penn & Tylers Green.

Wally started strongly, putting their hosts under a lot of pressure which was rewarded on 9 minutes when Charlie Silkstone curled in a shot from the edge of the box, although the keeper should have done better with the strike.

Wally’s good work was undone 3 minutes later when a ball over the top opened their defence and Penn made it 1-1. 15 minutes later Silkstone restored the lead when he found space at the edge of the box and rifled the ball into the roof of the net.

Once again, the lead was short lived as Penn equalised from the spot following a foul in the box. The home side took the lead just after the break with striker Rashid Hamid completing his hat-trick.

In worsening conditions, Wallingford pushed for an equaliser, but they were caught on the break in the 80th minute as Penn took a 4-2 lead and after a defensive mix up Penn added a 5th goal in the 88th minute to make the final score 5-2.

Away from league action, Holyport’s defence of their Supplementary Cup title ended emphatically on Saturday as they were beaten by Malemesbury Victoria of the Hellenic Division One West. Port were trailing 3-0 at half time and their hosts added a further goal after the break to make the final score 4-0 to the Wiltshire outfit.
