A mixed weekend for the West Berkshire sides Newbury were beaten in the Berks & Bucks County Cup semi final while Thatcham Town won and Hungerford Town made a mockery of their Vanarama National League South position by beating St Albans City 5-0 at Bulpit Lane.

The Crusaders – who saw manager Ian Herring hang up his boots this week – completely dominated the game from start to finish after an outstanding team display.

Two goals from Danilo Orsi-Dadomo and a brilliant free kick from Darren Foxley gave the home side a three goal cushion at the break. Backed by a passionate and vocal home support Hungerford continued to pile on the pressure in the second half creating a number of good opportunities.

Goals from Alfy Whittingham and Matt Jones making it an afternoon to remember. The game also saw the return of fans favourite Callum Willmoth who came on as a late sub following a 17 month layoff due to injury, a timely boost as Hungerford fight to stay in the league.

More performances like yesterday then the thought of relegation will soon disappear.

Newbury went down 2-0 at Marlow United in Saturday’s semi-final in front of a crowd of 275, the end of an excellent cup run.

United will play Old Bradwell United in the final after they beat Sandhurst Town 2-0 at Bottom Meadow.

Thatcham Town were also involved in a hugely entertaining game when beating Evesham United 4-2 at Waterside Park in the Southern League South.

Two penalties from Shane Cooper-Clark, a debut goal for Kyle Tooze and a late Scott Rees effort seeing The Kingfishers pick up three valuable points.

The home side finished with nine men after Stuart Cattell and Jack Alexander were both sent off in a game which saw Thatcham complete the league double over their high flying visitors.

The result keeps Thatcham in touch with the play-off hopefuls, should Danny Robinson’s squad add consistency to their game then a play-off spot is more than a realistic target.
