Two teams in need of victories took to the field on Tuesday night and both came away with victories.

For Binfield, the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup has provided some much needed relief from Hellenic League travails and did so again as a Carlo Santoro strike and an Ian Davies hat trick gave the Moles a 4-1 win at Windsor.

Binfield’s last win came in the same competition at the start of January, a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Brimscombe & Thrupp following a 3-3 draw after extra time and is significant as their first normal time win since Brimscombe 2-0 in the Challenge Cup on the 29th December.

Herridge’s side led 1-0 at half time through Davies while ‘that man’ Dan Roberts levelled up on 52 minutes.

A minute later Carlo Santoro put Binfield back in front and Davies made it 3-1 on 69 minutes and rounded off his hat trick on 90 minutes.

Windsor still have silverware to fight for with a Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup semi final against Almondsbury on 9th March.

The other side in need of a win was Combined Counties League Division One side Eversley & California. The Boars hadn’t won in any competition since a 2-1 win over Epsom & Ewell on the 24th November.

Matty Angell’s side duly registered the three points though against bottom of the table Fleet Spurs with Denis Nortey giving the home side a 1-0 half time lead.

It took time to register the second goal, but the points were confirmed on 85 minutes when Ross McKernan scored and Harrison Shade then made it safe.

In the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, a late rally from Ascot United wasn’t enough as they were beaten 3-2 by Shrivenham who moved up to 6th in the table.

The Yellamen were arguably the better side in the first half with some neat football played but were unable to break down a solid Shrivvy side who went in 1-0 up at the break.

Two moments marked the second half with United conceding two penalties, both neatly put away to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Tempers were certainly short on the night, not helped by the stop start nature of the game but there was some hope for the Yellamen when Callum Carlisle pulled one back on 80 minutes and then headed home from a free kick on 87 minutes.

Elsewhere, Tuffley Rovers recovery continued with an impressive 4-1 win at home to Lydney Town in the Hellenic Premier while in the Bostik League South Central Division One play off rivals Marlow and Cheshunt clashed with a Kevin Bossman hat trick helping Marlow to a 4-0 win.
