It was back-to-back wins for Binfield on Monday night as they beat Ardley United 2-1 at Hill Farm Lane in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

In a match of few clear cut opportunities, Binfield were clinical in finishing with two well taken strikes as they came from behind to make it two league wins in a row and three in all competitions – but they had goalkeeper Sonny Wheeler to thank late in the second half.

The Moles were behind early on when Billy Gillett rose highest to convert a corner in the first half before a through ball was controlled effortlessly by Josh Howell, the attacker then fired the ball from 25 yards across the goalkeeper to equalise.

Stephen Peacock, bustling away up front put Binfield ahead on 38 minutes, shortly before being substituted for what looked like a hamstring injury.

The goal came after great work down the left by Jemel Johnson, his cross found Danny Horscroft who could only fire straight at Christian Lawrence, the rebound though fell to Peacock on the edge of the box. he shifted the ball right and fired across the goalkeeper.

Credit to a lively Ardley side though who were far more organised than when the two sides met on the opening game of the season, particularly Tom Griffiths who appeared to play right back, left back and then centre of a three man defence over the course of 90 minutes.

The visitors pressed hard for a leveller in the second half, only a brilliant and brave point blank save from young Mole Sonny Wheeler denied them while they also struck the post twice late on.

Elsewhere, frustration for Reading City in the other Monday night game as they led 1-0 through new signing Marcus Mealing on 50 minutes at home to promotion chasing Wantage Town.

The Freds got their act together though and a 68th minute Brad Cox penalty levelled things up.

It looked like it was going to be honours even until Ben Cook struck an 89th minute winner and Connor Mattimore made it 31 in injury time.
