Sam Lock stated that he was looking for a reaction tonight after Bracknell lost their opening fixture away at Chipstead on Saturday, so he will have been pleased with the way that his players rallied to that call on the 3G Pitch at Larges Lane.
Uxbridge had seen a two goal lead slip away against Chertsey, after they had been reduced to ten men, so they certainly were looking for a positive response as well, and they got off to the stronger start as Mahlondo Martin was fouled giving Dave Thomas the chance to fire a free at the home side’s goal forcing Mark Scott to push it wide.
Having survived the early scare Bracknell won a free kick of their own when Nicholas Bignall won a free kick outside the box which Seb Bowerman lofted into the box, but Joe Gatercouldn’t control his header and it went wide.
Bignall caused more problems for the visiting defence when he got a cross in which had to be headed behind for a corner kick, and Tyler Tobin had to palm the in swinging centre clear from Caden Genovesi.
On the 20th minute Dave Hancock put a cross in from the right which was controlled by Nathan Minhas, and worked the opportunity to shoot goalwards however the ball bounced off the inside of the right post across the six yard area behind Tobin into the path of Genovesi who tapped it home to make it 1-0 !

6 minutes later and it was 2-0 as James Mulley created space for himself before feeding the ball through to Bignall in the area and he spun and shot into the bottom right hand corner leaving Tobin no chance !
Bracknell’s tails were up now and the visiting area was being peppered with crosses from Bowerman, Bignall and then a corner kick from Genovesi which Gater again head wide.
At this point Luca must have had some kind of premonition as to how the rest of the match would play out because he turned his hand to some abstract art ……. A horse in his own bespoke horse box apparently. Order this for the one you love this Christmas signed by the artist himself.
Anyway back to the match where Uxbridge managed to get themselves on the ball and won another free kick in the Bracknell half although Calum Duffy couldn’t clear the wall, and although it deflected out for a corner kick Thomas’s ball was headed clear.
The Robins created another couple of good chances when Hancock set Minhas through on goal, but his shot was saved by Tobin, and soon after the keeper kept his team in the match when saved from Bignall.
The half ended with Uxbridge having a free kick, but it easily dealt with as it was headed clear.
Half Time: Bracknell Town 2-0 Uxbridge
Tobin nearly had a moment to forget at the start when he dropped a relatively easy ball into the box and it dropped to the feet of Minhas, but he had his back to the goal and couldn’t profit from a narrow angle.
Uxbridge looked to get one of their players through on goal, but Dan Bayliss was alert to cut it out, and he got up the other end but headed Rob Sheridan’s long throw wide of the goal.
The visitors’ were straight back on the attack and a Scott could only parry a ball across the six yard box to substitute Alex Paine who flashed a shot into the side netting from a tight angle.
Genovesi showed great energy to chase down a ball from his own half and benefitted by winning a corner kick that was headed clear although it was eventually swung back into the area where Gater went for an overhead kick which Tobin was equal to.
Mark Bitmead sent a free kick into the Robins box, but saw it headed clear and found an opportunity to break from his own half in the next attack to win a set piece, but Jack Beadle’s ball evaded everyone.
Minhas ran onto a long ball, but hit his shot into Tobin’s midriftwhen he just had him to beat.
A slack pass in the Bracknell half saw the visitors’ advance into the area, but Scott was out to collect the ball under pressure. Uxbridge soon regained possession though and it lead to succession of long throws which finally ended up with Paine hitting the bar from distance.
Bowerman ran into the area before passing to Hancock, but the defender was sharp to block his attempt, before the former gave Minhas a chance to shoot, but Tobin gathered it.
Alan Hedley tried to catch Scott off guard with a snap shot, but it had the sting taken out of it when it deflected off one the defenders to Martin who curled an effort over the bar. Bitmeadtook the chance to shoot, but again it was deflected allowing Scott to collect it.
The final action of the match saw Dan Carr weave his way in on goal, but Tobin denied him with his feet.
The home side applauded the home crowd for coming out on this Tuesday night to see Bracknell get points on the board in the knowledge that there will be tougher tests than this in the coming season.
