Wokingham & Emmbrook and Holyport through in FA Vase

The final FA Vase fixtures of the First Qualifying Round took place on Sunday with both Wokingham & Emmbrook and Holyport moving in to the next round.

The Sumas played their first FA competition fixture in the borough for 20 years when Chipping Sodbury Town visited Lowther Road and sprung a bit of a surprise on their step 5 opponents.

Wokingham led 1-0 at half time but the visitors equalised in the second half to take the tie to extra time with Elliott Rushforth scoring the decisive goal for the Sumas.

Holyport also went through after a tremendous second half, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 courtesy of a brace from Andy Forisky either side of an Wesley Sutherland strike.

Exiting the competition were Chalvey Sports who lost 1-0 to Wembley at home and Langley were beaten 4-3 at Long Crendon.

On Saturday, there were three casualties as Eversley & California were beaten 1-0 by Abingdon United, Woodley United lost 3-0 at Malemesbury Victoria and Sandhurst Town were beaten 7-3 by Clanfield 85 after going 3-0 up, the game appeared to shift momentum after a 35th minute red card for the Fizzers.

Maidenhead United continued their fine start to the season with a 3-0 win at Sutton United, moving in to fourth courtesy of goals from Danny Whitehall (2) and Shamir Fenelon.

In the National League South, Hungerford Town were beaten 3-0 at Billericay Town while Slough Town were held to a 1-1 draw by St Albans City, Matty Lench with the Rebels goal.

Isthmian and Southern League

Bracknell Town beat Ashford Town (Middlesex) 4-0 in the Isthmian League South Central Division One at Larges Lane with Nathan Minhas hitting a hat trick while Max Herbert also got on the score sheet. Nick Calvert’s report from the game is here.

In the Southern League South Division One, 10-man Thatcham Town won 2-1 at Paulton Rovers despite a 43rd minute red card for Kyle Tooze.

Joe Selman had equalised for the Kingfishers before half time and Jordan Williams got the winner in the 76th minute.
