Sean McCormack rescues a point for Bracknell Town

Back to Larges Lane this afternoon as Bracknell Town took on Waltham Abbey in the BetVictor Isthmian South Central Division with both sides reflecting on what would be considered an underwhelming start to their seasons.

The Robins came into this match off the back of a 2-1 win over Chalfont St Peter in the Velocity Trophy and having beaten Staines Town 5-1 in the league, whilst The Abbotts had lost 0-2 to high flying Hanwell Town in the league and been defeated 2-3 by Aveley in the Velocity Trophy.

The rain had already started to fall as Luca and myself strolled over to the ground giving a prelude of the weather which we would have to endure this afternoon. Hopefully the wind wouldn’t be as gusty as it had been last weekend though.

On receiving the team sheet some names immediately stood out as a new keeper Dante Baptiste was in goal for the Robins, because apparently James Hoskins had been injured in training at Watford during the week.

Sean McCormack was on the bench having signed from Metropolitan Police, whilst vacationing Kensley Maloney was the obvious absentee.

And now largely over to Luca for the actual match report.

As the minute of silence ends The Abbots kick off and of down the pitch and to a throw. Abbey’s keeper hoofs it down the pitch, but Bracknell intercept.

Bracknell win the ball, shoot but into the keeper’s hands, then a free kick for Bracknell out wide up the pitch which The Abbotts win back for Charlie Crowley to boot the ball upfield and into Bracknell’s box but Bracknell win and lose the ball again only for Bracknell to boot it up field where Seb Bowerman’s shot goes over the bar.

Bracknell win the ball but a trash pass to Dan Carr from Bracknell hits it over the bar with several of The Robins in the box, but the ball is headed away #ComeOnBracknell!

Carr cross but Crowley clouts the ball then Prince Domafriyie gets into the Bracknell box but Dante Baptiste got finger tips to it and out for a corner. This set piece is cleared out allowing the visitors to counter through Domafriyie, but his pull back doesn’t find any teammates.

It’s a good game at the moment, but the weather is not as nice … in fact I’m in a waterfall!

Bracknell get caught offside and The Abbotts take the ball wide giving them a 1-0 lead through Nathan Twum-Korateng’s deflected shot which gave Baptiste no chance on 23rd minute.

Bowerman keeps pressure up on and Nathan Minhas is played through on goal, but Crowley makes a great save with his left hand.

It’s really hard to play decent football with a swimming pool absorbing in the 3G free kick but both sides continue to try their best as the half ends with Waltham Abbey holding onto their lead.

Half time: Bracknell Town 0-1 Waltham Abbey

Bracknell kick off the second half with no changes to either side and it’s not a bad start but the rain is still bad.

The visitors have an incredibly good opportunity to double their lead as they break down the left, but the ball into Aron Gordon into the centre is cut out which is really lucky as he was clean through on goal.

The Robins get a free kick which Bowerman takes and Joe Gater has a free header put Crowley is happy to catch it. Max Herbert shoots into keeper’s hands. Carr shoots high and wide.

As the match becomes more fractious Bowerman wins a free kick but on the 67th minute Charlie Edwards receives a second yellow card and is giving his marching orders to reduce Waltham Abbey to ten men.

Bracknell introduced Sean McCormack and Owen James into the fray and that immediately makes a difference with James firing a low ball across the six yard box which nobody can get the final touch on.

On the next attack James feeds Caden Genovesi down the left and his low cross is tapped in by McCormack to bring things level on the 88th minute !

Suddenly Bracknell are on top, but even though they managed to hit the post they couldn’t get a winner so the spoils were shared leaving The Robins to prepare for their away to Harlow Town next Saturday in BetVictor South Central Division.
