Reading Women FC completed their three game return to the Madejski Stadium with a thumping 6-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

On a freezing cold evening in Reading all six goals were aptly scored by Scandanavians. Norweigian duo Lisa-Marie Utland and Kristine Leine were both on the scoresheet. A remarkable five goal haul for Utland, and a first Royals goal for defender Leine.

It was unsurprisingly Utland’s biggest goal haul of the season to date, though perhaps slightly oddly she only managed to find the net once when playing in Norway’s 13-0 qualifying victory over Faroe Islands in October.

Crystal Palace struggled to live with the crisp passing of the Reading Women forwards and the Royals were a goal up in 7 minutes through Utland. The mercilless Utland had completed her hat-trick by the 22nd minute. Reading netted another before half-time, a scrambled goal from a corner by Kristine Leine and the game was over as a contest.

The second half was a damp squib in comparison to the first, but Reading’s fifth (Utland’s fourth) a wonderful dipping volley from 30 yards, lit up a ice cold RG2. Utland even had time to net her fifth in injury time.

A 6-0 win was a fine send off for Reading Women at the Madejski Stadium in 2019, and you have to expect the men’s side will struggle to record such a resounding win at their stadium this season.

It was also a welcome clean sheet for Kelly Chambers’ side who have found keeping the ball out difficult in recent weeks. They now move on to consecutive double of away games at West Ham and Brighton before the visit of London duo Arsenal and Tottenham in December at Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park.

Finally Football in Berkshire would like to offer best wishes and a speedy recovery to Reading Women’s Kiera Skeels who was stretchered off early in the second half with what looked like a bad injury.
