Binfield exited the Berks & Bucks County FA Senior Cup on Tuesday night with a 4-0 defeat at Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United.

If the score seems emphatic on paper, in reality it flattered the Magpies – four division higher in the Non League Pyramid – a little with two goals coming in the final three minutes of normal time.

That is not to say that Maidenhead weren’t worth their win, but the visitors performed admirably against the Magpies who were fielding, goalkeeper aside a first team squad in the fixture.

On the night, Maidenhead lead on 25 minutes through Joe Ellul, currently serving a National League suspension but eligible for the fixture while Danny Whitehall scored the first of his hat trick on the night on 35 minutes.

It was 2-0 at half time but still Binfield pressed on. Missing players themselves including centre back pairing Guy Hollis and Calam Gallimore, Jamie McClurg had the best chance to score for Binfield when his long range effort struck the bar.

As the half progressed, Maidenhead introduced several youngsters which effectively put the game to bed, the additional pace ensuring Whitehall completed his hat trick on 87 and 89 minutes.

Elsewhere, Marcus Johnson-Schuster gave Hungerford Town a 1-0 National League South win at home to Tonbridge Angels, three days after the visitors had held Slough Town to a 0-0 draw at Arbour Park.

In the Southern League, Thatcham Town ended manager Danny Robinson’s ‘curse’ at Bristol Manor Farm with a 3-0 win. Football in Berkshire was present in the South West back in 2016/17 when the Kingfishers were well beaten 4-1 in the FA Vase Third Round.

Scott Rees, Felipe Barcelos and Sam Barder got the goals on the night as Robinson’s side closed the gap on leaders Frome Town to two points with three games in hand.

A big point in the Combined Counties League Division One as Eversley & California held promotion chasing Farnham Town to a 1-1 draw at Fox Lane with an 87th minute equaliser from Kalum Patrick.
