Slough Town closed the gap at the top of the Vanarama National League South on Boxing Day with a 2-1 win over leaders Wealdstone in front of a huge crowd of 1,307 – the largest at Arbour Park this season.

The Stones remain four points clear but have now dropped points in three of their last six games with the Rebels leading the play off pack in second on 40 points.

Slough led at the break thanks to a Ben Harris penalty after the former Ascot United striker had been tripped in the box on 25 minutes and the game was seemingly made safe on 88 minutes when Max Worsfold made it 2-0.

It wasn’t over though, Michee Efete fired home in injury time to make it a nervy few minutes, fortunately for the Rebels though it was nothing more than a consolation.

After the match, posting on social media joint boss Jon Underwood called Slough’s win ‘a proper team performance’. Read the report on the Slough Town website here.

Across the M4, Slough’s neighbours Windsor were busy winning their first Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division game since 12th October, winning the Stag Meadow derby against tenants Virginia Water 2-0.

Billy Montague and a second half penalty from Luke Brooks-Smith secured the points for the Royalists who are now without a game until the 4th January.

Also in the division, Binfield left it very very late to take the three points at Reading City, substitute Jemel Johnson scoring the only goal of the game in the 92nd minute to take all three points in a 1-0 win.

Back in the National League, Maidenhead United suffered a bit of a Boxing Day hangover at Notts County with a 3-0 defeat to the former Football League side at Meadow Lane while Hungerford Town rallied at Oxford City after Liam Ferdinand had given the Crusaders a 1-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes, only to fall behind 3-1 on the hour.

On 70 minutes, James Rainy headed home but there was no subsequent equaliser for Ian Herring’s side. There is a full report on the Hungerford Town website here.

Finally, in the Southern League, Thatcham Town kept up the pace at the top of South Division One after last weeks abandoned game at Frome Town.

Curtis Angell and Kyle Tooze scored either side of half time for the Kingfishers on 44 and 52 minutes of a 2-1 win with the visitors goal coming on 48.
