Cookham Dean closed the gap at the bottom of the Thames Valley Premier League to four points with only their second win of the season while Berks County did their promotion chances no harm with a win over rivals Maidenhead Town.

In Division One, a first league defeat of the season for top of the table Wargrave at Hurst, though it didn’t damage their title chances to much with second placed Slough Heating Laurencians tasting defeat.

Berks County 5 Maidenhead Town 2

The game of the day was at Ryeish Green Sports Hub where Berks County ran out 5-2 winners over Maidenhead Town.

The Swords goals were scored by Tom Nugent, Tommy Nower, Leslie Sackey, Harvey Griffiths and George Lock. It was a debut goal for Lock who has signed from Ascot United on dual registration.

Town’s goals were netted by Duarte Surpanu, who played against Isthmian League Lewes in the Velocity Cup for Bracknell Town in midweek, and Jake Wheeler.

Berks County are now in second place, with Maidenhead Town in fourth.

Burghfield 2 Windlesham United 1

Despite being down to 10 men for the whole of the second half Burghfield ran out winners against Windlesham. Goals from Dominic McKenzie and Ross Baker were enough to hand the home side all three points. Windlesham’s consolation was netted by Sam Roberts.

Newbury 1 Westwood Wanderers 3

League leaders Westwood Wanderers inflicted Newbury’s second league defeat of the season on Saturday. Newbury had taken the lead through Jesse Bowers.

However, Wanderers hit back with three goals from Christian Downing, Ross Storrar and Alex Sergent.

Westwood Wanderers remain top, three points clear of Berks County in second.

Woodcote 1 Richings Park 2

Daniel Sanchez and Bradley Jones were the goalscorers for Richings Park on Saturday as they defeated Woodcote 2-1.

Wraysbury Village 0 Cookham Dean 1

Basement boys Cookham Dean won only their second game of the season on Saturday with an imopressive 1-0 victory at Wraysbury. Nathan Lishman was the hero, scoring fifteen minutes before the end of the game.

Berks & Bucks County FA Senior Trophy

Penn & Tylers Green 11 Mortimer 2

Thames Valley League interest in this tournament ended on Saturday as Mortimer fell to a heavy defeat at French School Meadows.

Mortimer’s consolation goals were scored by James Swanborough and Carl Self.

For Penn & Tylers there were hat-tricks for Dean Allen and Gary Lines, a brace for Rushd Rashid Hamid and goals for Dean Munday, James Hancock and Dayo Olufemi.
