On Saturday in the Hellenic Division One East there was a Berkshire derby as Chalvey Sports entertained AFC Aldermaston at Arbour Park. Chalvey were looking to move back into the promotion places but it was the visitors who took an early lead when Chris George scored on 5 minutes.

The lead didn’t last long as 4 minutes later Tom Williams drew the Stabmonks level with a lob from a tight angle. 10 minutes into the second half Chalvey took the lead as Matty Edwards headed in an Aydn Coomber free kick.

Again, the lead was short lived as straight from kick off a mistake at the back allowed Jamel Forde-Small to nip in and finish from close range. The Atom Men had the final say 10 minutes from time when a free kick fell to Gary Smith who finished from a tight angle to leave the final score as 3-2 to Aldermaston.

Chalvey’s defeat gave Holyport the chance to leapfrog them in the table and it was a chance they took emphatically with a big win at home to Kidlington Development.

Kidlington took the lead when Callum Green scored after just 3 minutes, but by half time Port were well in control as goals from Alan Ackerman, Fabian Driffill, Josh Masters and Steve Deverall had given them a 4-1 lead.

The goals did not stop there as 10 minutes after the break Driffill had scored another two goals to complete his hat-trick, before Andy Forisky got in on the act to make it 7-1. The home side’s scoring was completed on 72 minutes when Deverall got his second. There was still time for Kidlington’s Green to score two late goals and complete his hat-trick, making the final score 8-3 to Holyport.

Wokingham & Emmbrook were just inside the promotion places going into Saturday’s fixtures and they looked to maintain that position when they welcomed Long Crendon to Lowther Road. It was the visitors who took the lead 10 minutes into the game with a strike from a corner, but the Sumas were ahead before the break as Luke Scope got an equaliser before a Josh Harris header gave them the lead. In the second half both sides had good chances but only one was taken, when Nick Bateman headed in from a corner to secure the victory for Wokingham.

Woodley United had seen an upturn in their fortunes of late, going undefeated in their last 5 matches across all competitions, but that run came to an abrupt halt on Saturday when they were defeated 6-0 at Penn & Tylers Green. The Kestrels were 2-0 down at half time and Penn scored four more unanswered goals in the second half to hand Woodley their first defeat since early December.

Combined Counties League Division One

In the Combined Counties League Division One Eversley & California looked to extend their unbeaten start to 2020 when they hosted Kensington & Ealing Borough at the ESA Ground.

Kensington, who are in the running for the promotion places, took the lead midway through the first half, but 10 minutes before the break the Boars were back on level terms when Jamie Griggs headed in a Ross McKernan header to make it 1-1.

The scores were not level for long as the visitors scored again just four minutes later to give themselves a 2-1 lead at half time. With time running out in the second half Kensington looked to have secured all 3 points until a corner in the 89th minute saw substitute Kai Francis meet a Ross McKernan corner with a bullet header that brought the scores level and rescued a late point for Eversley. The Boars remain bottom but are now just one point behind the side above them, with a game in hand.

Sandhurst Town travelled to Chessington & Hook United looking to maintain their promotion challenge. The Fizzers were twice behind in the match but goals from Grant Kemp and Jamie Mitchell saw them equalise twice and end the game with a 2-2 draw. The result left Sandhurst in 8th place in the table, 6 points off the promotion places with three games in hand.
