In the Combined Counties Division One Sandhurst Town made the short trip to face Ash United looking to improve on an indifferent run of form that has seen them take 6 points from their last 5 league games.

The Fizzers got off to the perfect start as goals from Danny Turner and Bradley Brown gave them a two-goal lead inside the first 3 minutes. By half time two further goals had given Sandhurst a commanding 4-0 lead and rather than sit back after the break they continued to pile the pressure, and the goals, onto their hosts.

The Fizzers added a further four unanswered goals in the second half to give themselves an 8-0 victory, and the biggest win of the Michael Herbert era. Sandhurst followed up the trouncing of Ash with a 3-2 home win over Walton & Hersham on Tuesday night that saw both sides reduced to 10 men. It was result that saw them rise 4th place in the league and into the automatic promotion spots.

Eversley & California were unable to maintain their unbeaten start to the year when they visited Farnham Town on Saturday. The hosts took the lead 10 minutes before the break and the Boars’ task was made tougher 20 minutes from time when Dale Small received a red card for a trip on a Farnham player. The game finished 1-0 to Farnham and while Eversley will have been disappointed with the defeat, they would have been pleased to run the team who are second in the table so close.

On Tuesday Eversley missed the chance to get off the bottom of the table as they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Chessington & Hook thanks to goals from Ellis Wint and Cameron Edwin, when a win would have seen them leapfrog their opponents into 18th.

Hellenic League

In the Hellenic Division One East the race for promotion is hotting up with three Berkshire sides in contention for the top 4. One of those sides, Wokingham & Emmbrook entertained Langley on Saturday in a Berkshire derby.

Langley sit second bottom in the table, but if the Sumas thought they were in for an easy afternoon they were mistaken as the visitors provided resolute opposition. A first half where both sides had chances looked to be ending goalless before Wokingham put together a nice move that saw Luke Scope play in Josh Harris to score.

15 minutes from time Langley’s resistance was finally broken when a Harris corner was headed in by Liam Eagle. The win sees Wokingham climb to 3rd in the table.

There was another Berkshire derby featuring a promotion hopeful at Scours Lane where Chalvey Sports travelled to face Woodley United. Again, a game between sides at opposite ends of the table was a tight affair and the match was decided by a single goal, one that came in unfortunate circumstances.

With less than 10 minutes gone a back pass from Luke Axton-Hall found its way into the Woodley net when Craig McCreeth slipped up. That was the only goal of the game and the win lifted Chalvey to 6th in the table.

Holyport are the other Berkshire side in promotion contention and they kept their challenge on track with a 2-0 home win against Long Crendon. After a goalless first half Holyport were ahead shortly after the break when they won a penalty which Daniel Rapley successfully converted.

Port secured the win before the hour mark as captain Adam Sharp scored to give them a 2-0 victory over the Oxfordshire side.

On Tuesday Holyport defeated Long Crendon 3-0 in the reverse league fixture a result that lifts them into 4th in the table and into the final promotion spot, while Chalvey had a 2-1 home victory over Milton United that means they sit in 6th place and are one point off Holyport.

Wallingford Town recorded a 1-0 victory over Marlow United at the Hithercroft. The only goal of the game came on the 32nd minute from Stuart Walker. Wally followed up the win with a 3-2 victory at AFC Aldermaston on Tuesday night. The back to back wins mean Wallingford have gone 6 games without defeat and they climb to 11th in the table.
