Bracknell Town hoped to secure all three points this afternoon against visitors Chalfont St Peter, who were another one of the teams lower in the BetVictor South Central Division, but they expected to see their top goalscorer Dan Williams on the teamsheet, but he wasn’t included the squad for this match writes Nick and Luca Calvert.

The Robins welcomed back Mark Scott in their goal after a lengthy injury absence, but as it turned out he would have very little to trouble him this afternoon.

Within a minute The Robins had broken the deadlock having peppered the box with crosses before the telling centre came in from Caden Genovesi, and the ball broke to Max Herbert who slammed it home from outside the box past Sam Freeman, even though he did get a glove on it, to make it 1-0 !

Another great chance came from a good piece of skill as Haile found him some space to unleash a drive which Freeman beat away effectively.

Moments later Platt and Bowerman set up Haile, but again Freeman did well to dive to his left to push the effort round the post.

The Saints tried to get upfield and the best of their attempts saw Jamarl Joseph hit a cross into the area, but the defence cleared it, and Dara Dada hit a goalbound shot, but it was deflected away from goal.

Mickel Platt was released to have a run at the back four, but he couldn’t find the space to get shot away.

More chances came for the home side as the ball broke to Haile, but again Freeman was able to keep his shot out by tipping it over the bar, and Haile headed the corner kick off target.

Chalfont seemed to grow into the match having weathered the storm, and Andre Odetola ran beyond the defence, but he pulled his attempt across the face of goal,

Kahlil Francis got down the left and put a cross into the box which caused the defenders problems before eventually being cleared.

Danny Wickendon was able to take a free kick which came back to him off the wall, and then he flashed his second chance past the left hand post.

The last action of the half saw Bowerman send in a far post corner kick which Dan Bayliss headed back towards goal for Joy Mukena to try an overhead kick, but the shot went wide.

Half time: Bracknell Town 1-0 Chalfont St Peter

The second half was much more-scrappy with both sides really having to work to create opportunities, but Bayliss made Freeman save a headed opportunity from a free kick.

The Saints sent a long throw into the box which seem to bobble about for a bit before finally being cleared.

Bowerman got to the byeline, but his pull back didn’t find a Bracknell player, and his shot from the edge of the box was deflected into Freeman’s gloves.

As The Robins continued to try and double the lead Haile headed Bowerman’s cross wide, and then Haile and Platt set up Herbert, although his shot went high and wide.

Bowerman saw his shot deflected wide, and then Freeman saved Mukena’s close range effort.

In amongst it all The Saints had a glorious opportunity when a cross came in from the left, but it was headed away from Hani Berchiche as he looked certain to score.

Herbert put in a cross which landed at Platt’s feet, but Freeman saved his shot with his foot which probably sums up the match really.

Also Dada did release Francis through on goal, but the ball ran onto Scott and he was able to easily collect it.

Full time: Bracknell Town 1-0 Chalfont St Peter

As so often seems to be the case Luca chose Seb Bowerman as his Bracknell Town Man of the Match this week, but personally I think that Dan Bayliss had a good game keeping the defence secure as well as being a threat for set pieces.

Even then everyone agreed that Sam Freeman was the best player on the park for all the saves that he made to keep the score down to a respectable level.

This Tuesday 4th February Bracknell will travel relatively locally to play Westfield at Woking Park in their next BetVictor South Central Division match, before South Park come to Larges Lane next Saturday 8th February.

Bracknell Town: Scott, Kibaki, Genovesi, Mukena, Bayliss, Rees, Herbert (Capt), Atkinson, Haile (Musoke 90 mins), Platt  & Bowerman.  Unused Subs: Holness, Jonas, Surpanu & McCormack.
